PM Terrance Drew visits Southern University, aims to enhance educational collaborations

Dr Terrance Drew, the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis visited Southern University and A&M College’s Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SUAREC) on Wednesday 2nd October, 2024. This visit was conducted with a vision to hold significant discussions with the leaders of the institution to enhance educational collaborations between the university and the Federation.
This visit by the Prime Minister is a part of the initiative undertaken by him to strengthen their ties with international institutions that can bring strategic value to St Kitts and Nevis.
During his visit to the University, PM Terrance Drew was accompanied by Chancellor Dr. Orlando McMeans and other key academics. These delegates examined innovations undertaken by Southern University in several areas including, horticulture, livestock management, crop enhancement, agricultural sustainability and medicinal plant research.
While sharing glimpses of their visit to Southern University and A&M College, PM Terrance Drew stated that they have been able to negotiate more educational opportunities for the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis in terms of full and partial scholarships.
He stated that it is their primary goal to provide affordable educational opportunities to all citizens in order to help them prepare for the new and emerging challenges of the 21st century. He added that such opportunities play a vital role in creating pathways to success for the future generation of St Kitts and Nevis.
Following his meeting with the leaders of the university, PM Terrance Drew led on a comprehensive tour of the campus, showcasing various departments and facilities. He also made his visit to the Smith Brown Memorial Union which also houses the Gaming centre.
He was also taken on a tour of the Southern University’s Art Museum, showcasing the rich history and culture of the community. Following that, the Prime Minister attended a luncheon at Southern University, after which he was interviewed by the Broadcasting of the Louisiana Public about the Federation and its enhanced relationship with the university.
Moreover, the Prime Minister Terrance Drew also extended gratitude to Special Envoy for Investment, Development, and International Business Relations, the leadership of Southern University, Dr. Hadiya Claxton and the Government of St Kitts and Nevis for this significant collaboration.
PM Drew added that this visit is a testament to their unwavering commitment and dedication towards fostering their relationship and opening doors to several opportunities for the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis.
He further continued that this collaboration between the Southern University and St Kitts and Nevis sheds light on enhancing not only the agriculture sector but also the overall development of the nation.
