PM Terrance Drew participates in 16th Pink Walk, stands in solidarity with Breast Cancer fighters

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew, extended his support to the fighters as well as the survivors of Breast cancer. He recently walked his way to the streets of the island nation by participating in the Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation’s 16th annual Pink Walk.
PM Terrance Drew was accompanied by his wife, Diani Jimesha Prince Drew, Deputy Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Geoffrey Hanley, citizens, and many others. The Prime Minister stated that he stands in solidarity with all those who are fighting and have fought against breast cancer.
The Prime Minister shed light on this non-communicable disease and stated that it is one of the most common cancers in the Federation and has disproportionately affected and is affecting women. He, therefore, added that activities like these play a significant role in raising awareness and funds in the fight against breast cancer.
The Prime Minister, along with everyone adorned in hues of pink, took to the streets to raise awareness and celebrate survivors of breast cancer. He added that this walk also serves as a reminder that by such initiatives, they can create a meaningful impact in the lives of those touched by breast cancer.
In his walk to the streets of St Kitts and Nevis, the Prime Minister also met and clicked pictures with the Miss SKN Queen Ambassadors and extended them best wishes for their pageant.
Notably, the 16th annual Pink Walk was conducted on Saturday, 26th October, 2024 which started at Lime Kiln Parking Lot and ended at Frigate Bay Lawn. This walk is considered, a symbol of strength, unity, and unwavering support for those affected by breast cancer.
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
St Kitts and Nevis has been celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month from 1st October, participating in a significant initiative to raise awareness and support the important cause. The Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation encouraged everyone to take action and extend their support in meaningful ways.
The Foundation asked every citizen to take time to learn about breast cancer, and remember, Essence of Hope which stands ready to provide presentations and informational sessions in workplaces.
The Foundation called this initiative a great way of raising awareness of health conditions, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and enriching the lives of their fellow citizens.
Along with that, the Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation also urged the women of the country to do their Breast Self-Examination (BSE) regularly. They asked them to visit the doctors if they detect any kind of abnormalities in themselves.
They also mentioned that women 40 years or older should do their mammograms annually in order to be prepared and aware of their health conditions. The Foundation also made the same appeal to the men of the Federation, aiming to ensure a healthy lifestyle.
