PM Terrance Drew takes immediate action to curb water issues

St Kitts and Nevis: Terrance Drew, the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis highlighted the water issues in the areas of St Peters due to its escalated usage and decreased rainfall.

The Government is dedicatedly working towards the solutions of such an issue and the fire and water services have already been informed to attend to the area. Considerably, St Kitts Water Services Department released a public advisory regarding the water supply interruption in St Peter’s Higher elevations.

In an advisory, the residents of the region are informed about the cause of the increased demand and reduced inflow from the Green Hill Source and the team is actively working to address the issue.

Importantly, the department is also working on the arrangements for water trucking as a temporary solution. The department will continuously monitor the situation to address this issue.

Along with St Peters, Tabernacle is also being addressed because it is also going through the same issue and the water department is continuously monitoring the situation.

Probing ahead, the Prime Minister of the region, Terrance Drew outlined the budget for 2024 which has included a 2 million gallon desal plant which is projected to be constructed in the coming year 2024. In addition to it, he also mentioned that the well Cayon is on its way to completion.

Considerably, the budget of the country for 2024 involves the Water Storage Tank Project which has been specifically launched to meet the water crisis, it may also provide an aid in reducing the water-related issues with citizens by providing them with access to water.

Interestingly, the Government has distributed 265 tanks in various areas as part of this project. However, the projections made for the distribution of tanks are up to 579.

He highlighted that the water crisis is due to climate change. However, the officials are completely bound to find the solutions to cope with this. Also, the workings are under process to ensure the availability of water to the people of the area.
