One dead, another injured in fatal shooting at Jamaica; investigation underway

Westmoreland, Jamaica: A fatal shooting incident at a party in Burnt Savannah in Frome, Westmoreland resulted in the death of one man and injuries to another on Saturday. The cause behind the shooting is unknown and the authorities are probing the matter in detail in order to find the motive behind the offense. 

The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Sheldon Shakes, a farmer from Town Head District in Burnt Savannah. Meanwhile, the name of the injured man has not been revealed yet but he is a 32-year-old mason. 

As per the details shared by the authorities, both the victims were guests at a party that was being conducted at a sports bar and gaming lounge. At the ongoing party, a few patrons heard loud explosions which sounded like gunshots. 

After some time when the shooting subsided, the patrons found Shakes suffering from the injuries created due to gunshot wounds. As per the reports, Shakes was injured to the left side of his chest and the other man was injured to his lower left arm. 

The people who attended the party took both the injured men to the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital where doctors on duty examined them thoroughly and started their treatment. Shakes died at the hospital during ongoing treatment while the other victim was still undergoing medical procedures.  

The investigating officers are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter in order to get the culprit punished for the offense he or she committed. Several residents of the community took to their social media accounts and expressed their views on the incident. 

One person with a Facebook handle Alexander-Asif DeMarquis commented “I keep saying I won’t be caught dead at a local bar and it’s for this reason. Since the last 4 years every week, another one has been shot up or robbed or both.”

Another person commented the following “And the bloodletting continues daily, in this small-island nation, the crime news has become so common.”

The residents of Jamaica have urged the administration to take stringent measures to reduce the crime rate or they fear that no international visitor would love to visit the destination.
