“We are now on path to economic recovery as a result of early actions against COVID-19,” says PM Harris

St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris continues to draw the world’s attention to St. Kitts and Nevis’ efficient management of the COVID-19 pandemic and his government’s plans to bring the country back to a strong economic position after COVID-19.

The latest intervention by the Prime Minister took place when he took part in Collision 2021 – a virtual technology conference on Thursday, April 22, 2021. Prime Minister Harris was with Armand Arton, Chairman, on the ‘Post-Pandemic Recovery in an Interconnected World’ panel of Global Citizen Forum and the Rev. Melford Nicholas, Minister of Information, Broadcasting, Telecommunications and Information Technology in Antigua and Barbuda.

Prime Minister Harris spoke explicitly about the situation in St Kitts and Nevis: “We are now on the road to economic recovery due to some of the important steps we took very early. We had a life-saving strategy where we as a government and as a nation said we must work to ensure that no one loses their life as a result of COVID-19. St Kitts and Nevis have so far reached the target by having only 44 confirmed cases of COVID-19 – all have been completely recovered, no significant hospitalization, but most importantly no one has died here. We are therefore one of the safest destinations.”

Despite the gains so far in St. Kitts and Nevis, Prime Minister Harris reiterated that COVID-19 is a global threat and one that must unite the global community.

He said: “We are an interconnected world. Until all states are free of COVID-19, we all remain vulnerable, and therefore we must have global solidarity. I personally want to see more global leadership of the new US presidency to ensure that vaccines are made available to more countries, especially those in the Caribbean because we are few and if we can get herd immunity, it was a test case where the value of achieving that particular [herd immunity] status can be seen.”

Prime Minister was supported at the conference by the CEO of the St. Kitts and Nevis citizenship by the investment unit, Les Khan, as the successes and innovations of the Federation’s Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program were also discussed.

Collision is considered to be the fastest-growing technology conference in North America. Now in the seventh year, the clash has grown to more than 40,000 participants. This year’s virtual event, held from April 20 to 22, brought together the leading companies, international policymakers and global cultural figures.
