Volunteers remove 5000 lbs waste from Bimini for inaugural coastal clean-up
This was the inaugural clean-up for Bimini with the participation of over 100 individuals, inclusive of students, residents, and visitors.

Bahamas: The first coastal clean-up for the island of Bimini was executed successfully, resulted in the removal of more than 5000lbs of waste. This clean-up was conducted on Saturday, 21st September from 7 am to 12 noon.
The tourism authority marks it a significant step towards preserving Bimini’s coastline and protecting marine life. This was the inaugural clean-up for Bimini with the participation of over 100 individuals, inclusive of students, residents, and visitors.
This clean-up was a collaborative effort between Ministry of Tourism, Investments and Aviation and Ocean Aid 360, Virgin Voyages, Shark Lab, The Bimini for Sustainable Tourism Council (BFST), and several other sponsors.
Notably, this Community Coastal Cleanup event was conducted by the authorities in order to preserve the local marine environment and protect the aquatic ecosystems from the harmful effects of pollution.
All the volunteers participated in the event were offered with a complimentary breakfast and at the end of the day a prize raffle and lunch were provided to them at Bimini Big Game Club. Following that, the land and sea cleanup teams were tasked with removing debris from the designated areas along the coast.
Moreover, the authorities also distributed shirts, swag and supplies to all the participants so that they all can safely and effectively remove soil, germs and other contaminants.
The Tourism Authority also offered Ecotourism Packages to all the participants, including, Roundtrip transportation discounts on Balearia ferry, Special rates at Bimini Big game Club Resort and Marina, Special discounts and rates at Neal Watson’s Bimini Scuba Center and Special rates at Resorts World Bimini.
Also, the International Coastal Clean-up Day is observed annually worldwide on the third Saturday of September every year. And, this year, it was celebrated on 21st September, 2024. It is one of the world’s largest preservation and protection event which aims to make the planet a cleaner, happier place for humans, plants and animals.
This day encourages citizens to take measures to remove trash from the beaches and waterways and promote healthy marine life.
