The United States Grain Council, also called USGC, is working in a direction to promote ethanol blending method in the region of Caribbean and Central America. The initiate was disclosed by the USGC’s Latin America Office during the recent Cultivando Energía conference in Costa Rica.
Cultivando Energía means Growing Energy, which was also the focus point of the Conference. The gathering was hosted by USGC officials at the Inter American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture, also known as IICA.
The intention of the initiate for ethanol blending is to support the commitment made by nations of the Caribbean and Central America to increase the use of sustainable energy. The method will also lead in the heavy reduction of transportation related emissions.
The conference by USGC was joined by many experts and specialists including stakeholders in the field. The views were discussed in the gathering by over 80 participants along with authorities from different nations in the region.
Officials involved in the sector came to join the third Cultivando Energía conference by USGC from the Caribbean and other Central American countries including Guatemala, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Panama and Honduras.
The conference covered the topics of currents situation of the use of bio fuel in the region and the steps that could be taken in the future. The challenges and opportunities in relation to the ethanol blending was also the significant part of discussion.
Overall the meeting as intended advance the growth of agro-industry while maintaining the aim of reducing carbon emissions in the environment. In the event, government of Costa Rica was praised for their efforts for advancing region’s energy transformation.
The Costa Rican government gave boost to the ethanol blending program in recent time, which helped to set a trend for neighboring nations in the Caribbean and Central America. The efforts were made by the Ministry of Environment and Energy in collaboration with the USGC.
Ryan Legrand, CEO and President of USGC, shared his words in relation to the initiative and said, “We cannot limit ourselves to wishing for increased food production or relying on impractical solutions. It is essential to create sustainable markets through successful agriculture.”
In the conference USGC officials along with other bio fuel experts also made everyone aware about the concept of ethanol blending. They shared the core details about the method and practices that are already in use around the globe.
Caleb Wurth, USGC Regional Director for Southeast Asia and Oceania, shared the practices of ethanol blending used in Philippines. Whereas, Reece Cannady, USGC Regional Director for South Asia, talked about the developments in India.
Along with that, the ethanol bleeding experience in the United States of America was also discussed by the US experts. The part of the particular discussion were names like Alex Buck from Iowa Corn, Ron Lamberty from the American Coalition for Ethanol, and Keith L Kline from Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
