Trinidad and Tobago to witness Sunnier Conditions from Sunday 

A sequence of low-level to surface troughs has affected Trinidad, Tobago and the Windward Islands from December 6- 9, 2023, by bringing periodic rain, thunderstorms and heavy showers.

A sequence of low-level to surface troughs has affected Trinidad, Tobago and the  from December 6- 9, 2023, by bringing periodic rain, thunderstorms and heavy showers.

Notably, the heavier rainfall is expected to remain offshore and affect the eastern areas, and street flooding will remain a matter of concern with gusty winds accompanying violent rainfall.

Rainfall

For the next five days, rain is forecasted between 15 and 35 millimetres across the western half of Trinidad, while it will remain between 30 and 75 millimetres within the eastern half of Trinidad and Tobago.

One hundred millimetres are expected to be approached for the next five days across the isolated areas. It is to be noted that in highly isolated areas, there could be 24-hour rainfall, heavy showers, and thunderstorms exceeding 50 millimetres.

Since the last 40 hours (12 AM December 6 through 4 PM December 7), up to 150 millimetres of rainfall has fallen across parts of T&T.

Saharan Dust

Mild concentrations will be seen through Sunday, with rainfall tempering air quality impacts.

Hazards

From Saturday, the main hazards will originate from periods of rain, heavy showers and thunderstorms, which will produce cloud-to-ground lightning with gusty winds that may sometimes exceed 55 KM/H.

The period of heavy rainfall can trigger flash flooding. Landslides are also possible in elevated areas of northern Trinidad and eastern Tobago. Elevated winds are set to continue into the weekend.

Marine

Seas are forecasted to be moderate with open water waves, which generally would reach as high as 2.00 meters and get as high as 2.5 meters into the weekend.

In covered areas, waves are forecasted to be up to 1.5 meters and choppy in heavy showers and thunderstorms.
