Trinidad and Tobago: In further efforts to ensure criminal activities are reduced across Trinidad and Tobago, an operation conducted by lawmen resulted in the arrest of four individuals while seizing three firearms, several rounds of ammunition, and illegal drugs.
Operations were carried out in both the Northern and North-Eastern Divisions, displaying the continued commitment of the TTPS toward improving safety among its citizens.
The operations first occurred on Thursday, August 29, 2024, between 10 am and 1 pm in the Northern Division. Specific areas were targeted as members of the Northern Division Task Force arrested a 29-year-old Arima man and a 24-year-old female.
Both were charged with the Use of Obscene Language, Possession of Cocaine, and Possession of Apparatus, among others. In that same operation, the officers of the Task Force carried out a search in the Upper La Retreat Road area, where they found one revolver and a round of ammunition.
This again points to the prevalence of illegal guns in the community and the efforts in action to take them off the streets.
A simultaneous operation was also carried out in the North-Eastern Division by members of the Gang and Intelligence Unit with a search initiated at 5 pm. The arrest was conducted at the San Juan district, particularly at a basketball court notorious for criminal activities.
This resulted in the seizure of one pistol and one magazine loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition. Seizing this firearm is a big step in lessening the activities of criminal elements within the area.
Later that night, at approximately 9 pm, an operation was carried out in the district of Barataria by personnel of the Morvant CID, the NED Task Force, and members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force.
This operation resulted in the recovery of a second pistol, with a complete magazine containing 15 rounds of ammunition. A 23-year-old man from Barataria was arrested pertaining to this find.
In addition to these operations, the officers of the Task Force arrested a 39-year-old man in El Socorro during a late-night operation, finding him in possession of cocaine, further indicating the widespread problem of drug trafficking in the region.
These arrests and seizures represent the relentless work of the law enforcement agencies that continue to fight against continuous crime and illegal activities within the nation.
While such other operations continue, the TTPS remains vigilant in its quest to look after its citizens and continue to provide an even safer area for all and sundry.
