Tobago to re-activate COVID-19 protocols in schools

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: Tobago’s Division of Education, Research and Technology has reintroduced safety protocols in all the schools of the Federation due to the notable rise of COVID-19 cases.

As per the statement of the Division, this decision came into force because of a notable increase in the number of persons suffering from flu-like symptoms. Those symptoms are identified as Influenza and the virus.

“As a precautionary measure, the Division of Education, Research and Technology advises all principals to reactivate all the related COVID-19 protocols at their respective schools”, the release from the Division noted.

Noting this, the Division urged the principals of Early Childhood Care and Education Centres (ECCE) and especially the primary and secondary schools to pay more attention to the implementation of the COVID-19 protocols.

Further, they are advised to take proper care of sanitization facilities, including sinks, cleaning agents and a sick bay.

Noting this, the principals are asked to implement the required order and submit it to the Division by January 19. Also, they are suggested to conduct an internal COVID-19 safety audit to determine their school’s current resources and capacity.

The submission of the mandate should be done through their respective line supervisor. Some of the points that need to be remembered are as follows,

– The number of functional sinks available

– The number of additional sinks required

– The capacity and resources available at the school’s sick bay

– The number of entry points on the school’s compound and their current status of re-COVID-19 protocols

– A list of sanitization and hygienic supplies required to reintroduce the necessary protocols

– The current number of students in the school’s population categorized by male and female per year group

While addressing the media on Tuesday, Faith BYisrael, the THA’s Secretary of Health, Wellness and Social Protection, confirmed that the island reported four cases of COVID-19 to date.

According to her statement, the nation has reported COVID-19 cases between December and January of this year. She further noted that despite the figure, it is believed that the country has more cases of the virus that are not reported to them.
