Thea Lafond eying for Dominica’s first Olympic medal, PM Skerrit sends best wishes
The Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica extended congratulations to Thea Lafond on reaching the finals of the Women’s Triple Jump at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics 2024.

Roseau, Dominica: The Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit extended congratulations to Thea Lafond on reaching the finals of the Women’s Triple Jump at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics 2024. He also wished her the best for the final round and is praying for her to win the medal for the country.
Thea jumped 14.35 meters on her second jump in order to meet the qualification standards. On her exemplary victory, the Prime Minister lauded her achievement and stated that it is a testament to the unwavering commitment and dedication of Thea towards bringing laurels to the nation through her accomplishments.
Lafond is also a former record-setting UMD athlete and has won gold medal in the triple jump at the World Indoor Athletic Championship earlier this year by setting a national record of 15.01m. Her qualification into the finals has raised the chances of Dominica, winning its first Olympic medal in Paris. And, if she manages to win medal in Paris then it would also be the first ever Olympic medal for Thea.
Thea Lafond demonstrated her elite skills and ranked among the top 12 performers in the preliminary round to advance to the finals. Following her qualification for the finals, Thea stated that she was little bit of upset that she couldn’t able to make it in the first round, but she is happy that in the second jump, she could make it to the finals.
Moreover, Thea holds a very strong background in athletes as she is currently at the 4th spot in Triple Jump worldwide. She is also a National Record Holder in Triple Jump and Long Jump. And, with her strong determination and passion towards her athlete, she is all set once again to compete in the final round and win a medal for the Nature Island.
Along with her, two Jamaicans, Shanieka Ricketts and Ackelia Smith have also made their place in the final round who are all set to compete today for the medal for their respective nations.
Therefore, the Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has extended best wishes and are optimistic that Thea will get the first Olympic Medal for the country. He has also stated that he is impressed with the women of the country and their hard work towards their passion. He called “Thea” the pride of the nation who is continuously making efforts to bring glory to her island nation.
