TAMCC students present designs for Grenada’s Lagoon Road, Port Highway Development

St George’s, Grenada: The Ministry of Mobilisation, Implementation and Transformation of Grenada, on June 16, 2023 (Friday), welcomed public and private sector representatives to view and discuss proposed plans for the development of Lagoon Road and Port Highway.

According to the official update, the presentations were delivered by Tori-Ann Primus and Tori Calliste, Second Year students of the TA Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) who were concluding their 6-weeks internship at the Ministry.

Their assignment was to propose designs for Port Highway and Lagoon Road, to be implemented under the Visible Transformation Project, giving regard to the social and environmental impacts of the planned developments. Their modern architectural designs included considerations for renewable energy, rainwater catchment, flood mitigation, natural lighting, disability access and traffic control while maintaining the environmental integrity of both sites, as per the reports by the Ministry of Grenada.

Present at the engagement were Ministers of Government, business owners of Port Highway and Lagoon Road, including vendors, Geo F Huggins and representatives from the Grenada Port Authority, officers from various ministries and departments and Ronald Brunton and Merlisia Polius-John, Principal and Dean of the School of Applied Arts and Technology at TAMCC, respectively.

Further, the Ministry outlined that Ron Redhead, Minister for Sports, cited the planned developments at Port Highway as a welcomed supporting service for the neighbouring Roy St John Playing Field, while Senator Claudette Joseph highlighted the importance of visual and infrastructural enhancements for the development of the Town of St George.

Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Mobilisation, Peron Johnson, commended the students on their punctuality, discipline and professionalism during the internship and presented them each with a token of appreciation. She further indicated that a decision was made to extend the internship period for the duration of their summer vacation.

Reportedly, The Ministry of Mobilisation, Implementation and Transformation will continue to engage the relevant stakeholders to ensure the feasibility and sustainability of the planned developments, with due consideration to be given to the small business vendors.
