St Vincent and the Grenadines records 33rd homicide after Chateaubelair shooting

St Vincent and the Grenadines: A 20-year-old man was shot and killed in Chateaubelair, taking the number of homicides in St Vincent and the Grenadines to 33 for 2026. The deceased man was identified as Desran Micheal.
According to the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, Micheal was shot in the early hours of August 17, near Plan Village, Chateaubelair. Officers responded to reports of gunfire at around 1:00 am.
They arrived at the location and found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. He initially received treatment at Chateaubelair Smart Hospital before being moved to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in Kingstown. Micheal passed away on Thursday, August 20, at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
RSVG Police Force has not disclosed a possible motive or identified any suspect in connection to the shooting. Investigators processed the area and continued gathering the evidence.
Authorities are asking anyone with information or was near Plan Village during the time of the shooting, to come forward. Individuals can contact the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department/ Major Crime Unit on 456-1810 or 457-1211, extensions 4837 or 4839. Information can also be relayed via 999 or 911.
Acting Commissioner of Police Trevor Bailey said that the force will concentrate more on intelligence gathering, recovery of illegal firearms, targeted operations, and stronger investigation. He said, “We will not normalize gun violence.”
Brenton Smith, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ag.), has assumed the responsibility of the Crime portfolio in the command structure.
Michael's murder adds to the growing list of shooting and violent deaths that have taken place in the country this year. Police investigations into the shooting and murder remain ongoing.
