St Vincent and the Grenadines: National Public Library launches audio books for disabled population

Kingstown: St Vincent and the Grenadines’ National Public Library, Archives and Documentation Services has taken an unprecedented step by launching audiobooks for disabled persons. 

Audio Book Service for the Print Disabled service has been induced so as to keep up with the department’s motive to offer equal access to information for every resident of St Vincent and the Grenadines. Therefore, with this service, the department will be providing audio material to the individuals who are unfortunately not able to read the books following their print disability. 

The library authorities informed that for the time, the service is only available to the citizens who either are blind or have a low vision and for those individuals who possess any physical or learning disability that stops them from reading or holding a book. 

How can the citizens get access to this service? 

The individuals are being asked to register first in order to obtain the service, of which the online registration link is being provided at the Department’s Facebook page – NPLADSSVG. Citizens can also look for the registration form on the library’s Instagram page at – nationalpubliclibrarysvg.

 Moreover, the library authorities have provided helpline contact numbers for the citizens who need any help regarding the registration process or the service. One can contact the National Public Library at (784) 457-2022 or (784) 497-2022 (for Whatsapp), either send a message on FaceBook, Instagram or Whatsapp or send their queries via email at – publiclibrary@vincysurf.com.

This is indeed an excellent move taken by the library officials, which will helo the government to raise the standard of living of the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines.  

As per the data findings done in the Caribbean region countries, a total of 13.20% population is the one with complete vision loss, of which the majority of the affected individuals were the female population.
