St Lucian Govt provides 3000 e-tablets to primary school students

St Lucia: The government of the Caribbean country presented around 3000 e-tablets to the students of the primary schools to enhance the process of learning on March 28, 2022 (Monday).

This tablet distribution ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Philip J Pierre, Deputy Prime Minister and MP for Castries South and Member of Cabinet Ernest Hillarie, school authorities, and Minister of Education.

After the event was concluded, Prime Minister Pierre took social media to express pleasure and stated that such events would prioritize proper education.

PM wrote, “Today I participated in the handing over ceremony of 3000 e-tablets which forms part of a targeted intervention to facilitate the participation of primary school children in distributed learning.

Programmes such as the one laptop per child, paying facilities fees, paying the fees for CXC Mathematics and English are prioritised to level the playing field for our students.”

Prime Minister further stated that the government had been committed to providing all the necessary resources to the school students, teaching, and non-teaching staff.

“Access to proper education and the tools to succeed should not be a luxury. Despite our fiscal challenges, we are committed to providing our teachers and students with the necessary resources to thrive in this modern world,” Prime Minister mentioned.

Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hillarie also stated the government had started the laptop school programme so that each student has access to education system and technology. Under this programme, the government has been focusing on providing the means of technology to the students regardless of their economic or social circumstances.

Deputy PM stated, “I attended the Handing Over Ceremony for 3000 tablets to be used at Primary Schools. Even before COVID-19, the SLP Government started a school laptop programme to ensure that each child in the education system had access to technology to assist in learning regardless of their economic and social circumstances.”
