St Kitts receives four 40-foot containers of school furniture donations from Straughan Foundation

St Kitts and Nevis has received four 40-foot containers filled with school furniture such as desks, computer tables and many more items from the Straughan Foundation of Texas, USA. These items aimed at enhancing the educational infrastructure of the island nation and providing all the students and teachers with comfortable and engaging learning and teaching experience.

This information was shared by the Ministry of Education of St Kitts and Nevis who noted that the Straughan Foundation of Texas, USA has generously donated school furniture to the island nation which was recently distributed to several schools on St Kitts.

The schools that have benefitted from the first instalment of these new furniture included the Dr. William Connor Primary, Basseterre High, Washington Archibald High, Saddlers Secondary, Verchilds High, the Advanced Vocational Educational Centre and Charles E. Mills Secondary.

While extending gratitude to the Straughan Foundation for this act of generosity, the Minister of Education of St Kitts and Nevis, Geoffrey Hanley stated they are extremely humbled by this gesture of the Texas based Straughan Foundation for its donation of new school furniture to the Ministry of Education.

He further asserted that these collaborations are priceless and they couldn’t be prouder and appreciative of this timely donation. “Thanks to all involved in ensuring our nation’s children are empowered.”

The furniture donated by the Foundation includes primary-level student desks with a trapezoidal top, computer tables, teacher desks, secondary-grade-level desks, teacher and student chairs.

The schools benefitted from these donations also expressed their gratitude and ensured to continue to make every possible effort to improve the learning conditions for the students and contributing to better educational outcomes and student engagement.

Basseterre High School

The Deputy Principal of the Basseterre High School, Mrs. Judy Benjamin expressed gratitude and stated that she is extremely grateful for the donation. She asserted that it was really required to alleviate the seating constraints that they have experienced over the past few years.

“Once again thank you for your generous donation and we do look forward to your continued support and generosity to our school and students,” noted Principal Benjamin.

Saddlers Secondary School

The Deputy Principal of Saddlers Secondary, Adolphus Jones also expressed gratitude and stated that this new opportunity will play a huge role in creating a teaching moment for their students by having them construct the new student desks.

He thanked the Ministry of Education of St Kitts and Nevis for partnering with the Straughan Foundation to give them these wonderful desks. He added that it gave all the students an opportunity to work on their craft and their skills and hands-on fixing.

STRAUGHAN FOUNDATION

The Straughan Foundation is a non-profit organization which is based in Texas and its primary goal is to help students as much as possible by providing them essentials including school supplies, laptops, dental care and many others.

And, while emphasising on the donation made by them, the Ministry of Education, Donation Coordinator, Michael Straughan stated that they are thrilled to support the invaluable work and dedication of their organization in providing essential educational services to the children of St Kitts.

He further asserted that this donation by them will play a significant role in contributing to the enhancement of education within St Kitts, enabling the students to continue serving the educational needs of communities across St Kitts.
