St Kitts and Nevis: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources hosts the Annual Review and Planning Meeting 2024. The meeting is held in the large conference room of the Department of Agriculture.
During the meeting, the speakers from the Ministry, government officials and agricultural experts outlined the insightful presentations. Also, shed light on the current state of agriculture and highlighted the future goals.
During the first segment of the meeting, several of the factors were discussed. This included the ministry’s achievements, programs, and initiatives which were undertaken in the year 2023. This also showcased the successful endeavours and the areas of improvement.
The discussion involved in this is solution based which aims at bringing closure to the Annual Review and Planning Meeting 2024. In the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture, Samal Duggins delivered the message and many other ministers were as well present at the place.
Jeanelle Kelly, Director of Agriculture, Randel Thompson, Director of Marine Resources St Kitts and Nevis and Garfield Alexander, the Medical Cannabis Authority Chief Executive Officer revealed their participation.
The agriculture sector plays a vital role in the economic growth of the country. St Kitts and Nevis is already doing great towards the overall development. The ministry has already taken several initiatives of which the 25 by 25 agenda is one.
The 25 by 25 agenda relates to reducing the food import bill by 25% till 2025. For this, the government has already started taking necessary actions. The crop farmers have started receiving materials and the needed inputs as promised by the authorities.
The material being distributed to the farmers would help in boosting the crop production. With the boost in crop production, the economic boost as well will be on the cards. As such, the local production would offer the cost benefits to the population of the country.
