St Kitts and Nevis citizens participate in security community conversations against crime and violence

The citizens of St Kitts and Nevis are continuing to participate in the security community conversations and are coming upfront to address issues like increasing crime and violence in the country.
This exchange of dialogues is a part of the 90-day campaign which sheds light on the causes and the solutions that can be taken with a vision to make the island nation, a safe and secure nation. This session was held on Wednesday, 9th October, 2024 at the Bronte Welsh Primary School.
This Citizen Security Secretariat has initiated a series of consultations under the auspices of the Government of St Kitts and Nevis. It targets ordinary citizens and residents dubbed, Community Conversations which allow the people of the island nation to give their feedback, thoughts and ideas on the issue of crime and violence in the country.
While sharing glimpses of the conversation, PM Terrance Drew stated that he is really impressed to see people voluntarily participating in these meetings and vocalizing their views and opinions.
The pictures shared by the Prime Minister shed light on the serious discussions being held among people as well as the making of notes by them regarding several areas of the country and the crime that has occurred in the last few years and months.
He also extended gratitude to everyone who participated in the conversation and urged them to continue to become the pillar of strength for the nation and gave them the strength in their collective fight against crime and violence.
“I extend my gratitude to everyone who participated in the conversation at Bronte Welsh Primary School on Wednesday evening,” noted PM Terrance Drew.
Moreover, PM Terrance Drew called the creation of a Citizen Security Secretariat, their comprehensive approach towards ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens. He noted that the term “citizen security” has been recognized on a global platform, especially by the United Nations.
He added that the term citizen security is not just a word but a delegation which means that they are not just dealing with crime and violence but also associated to law enforcement.
He further mentioned that they want to shift the understanding and perception of the citizens that when they speak about citizen security it’s not just about crime and violence but also having a democratic system with proper access to water, food, education and enhanced healthcare.
The Prime Minister, Terrance Drew further called citizen security, as essential component which ensures that every citizen, resident, visitors can live, play and work in a safe and secure environment.
