St Kitts and Nevis celebrates Black History Month

St Kitts and Nevis: February is celebrated as the Black History Month. The whole month holds great significance and is being celebrated under the theme “African Americans and the Arts” as stated by Mark Brantley, Premier of Nevis.

Black History Month is celebrated in many countries. However, in the Caribbean, it is known as the time to mark the celebrations and raise awareness of the African and Caribbean Cultures across society and the world.

Considerably, the Deputy Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Denzil Douglas took to his Facebook and informed the public about Black History Month.

“The trials and tribulations, we’ve been through the victories and triumphs, successes and failures, accomplishments and struggles all have made us who we are. Proud and Strong, Liberated and ever moving on.”

Also, he added, “But, truth be told, every day we must celebrate ourselves and all those who came before us.”

To this, one of the citizens named Ken Jules also mentioned that “Black History is to be celebrated every day. But, this month, let us celebrate the achievements of the many folks who struggled for freedoms, justice and dignity for those of us still loving; but locally and universally.”

Such words by the citizens clearly state how connected the people are with the country’s heritage and culture. They have historical values and remember the sacrifices of the national heroes.

A few days ago, the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Terrance Drew shared some of the glimpses on his social media. St Kitts and Nevis Cabinet Ministers and Ambassadors also joined the celebrations.

The ministers were in Afrocentric attire, standing united in acknowledging the nation’s African roots. The Prime Minister underscored the significance of remembering the ancestor’s sacrifices and marked the historic moment as cultural pride and reflection.

The month holds great significance for St Kitts and Nevis, as it has one of the longest-written histories in the Caribbean.
