St Kitts and Nevis: Minister of Education, Youth, Sport & Culture of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Jonel Powell grants financial support to two prisoners. Mr. Vincent Fahie & Antawn Thompson will pursue their further studies via online mode.

Education is the soul of development in any country. Education is not just a necessity but a Right of every human being, whether that person is a culprit or an officer.
Mr. Vincent Fahie and Antawn Thompson, prisoners of Her Majesty’s Prison, to pursue online Bachelors Degrees in the University of the one and only West Indies (UWI). On Monday, Minister of Education, Youth, Sport & Culture of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Jonel Powell declares financial support to both of them.
What will they study?
According to the Ministry of Education, Fahie will pursue a Degree in Sociology with a Minor in Marketing, and Thompson will pursue a Degree in Accounting.
Their education background:
Both of these men have already received ‘Associates Degrees’ while in prison and have been tutoring other students for the past five years. They think, “Providing education opportunities in Prison is key to reducing crime.”
Why providing Education in Prison is a significant measure?
If we look at the bigger picture, this step is a significant measure that will decide the later development of any country. It is basically stimulating humanity more by upsurging the level of Education in those people. Criminals were never born as criminals; lack of Education and worse situations made them inmates. Providing Education opportunities will expand their horizons to become a great human, and surely it will disincrement crime rates.
People’s Reaction:
Alicia Powell commented, “Education is the key to assisting these young people. Well done.” A Facebook user commented, “Big move bust it.”
