St.Kitts and Nevis: The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis proposes extending the association between the Department of Labour & St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board to streamline applications to profit workers.

Dr the Honourable Timothy Harris, Prime Minister, gave some insight into ways the administration will be improving collaborative ventures in the coming weeks & months. On January 01, 2021. Dr. Harris pronounced in his New Year’s Address, “We require a statement to Cabinet presently regarding the probability of establishing up an E-platform for the Labour Department and Social Security to interface with each other on separation adjustments and related matters while observing and confirming with data secrecy and data safeguard issues.” 

The Federation is also developing to achieve actuarial instructions on the Severance Fund & Long Service Gratuity & Unemployment Benefits. This reaches after a supplementary $7 million was elevated into the Severance Fund to promote payments in the year 2021.

Prime Minister Harris stated that his Government remains dedicated to commissioning operators crossed the twin-island Government, “This demonstrates our love and concern for workers,” the prime minister said. “We will extend to safeguard our workers & promote that their future is safe and reliable. These are important labor values, which further illustrate our engagement that our workers are protected at all times.”

Dr. Harris added that additional measures to increase worker empowerment would be implemented. “My government will extend duty-free concessions accorded to first time home builders to the Teachers’ Union, the Labour Union, and any of our Credit Unions and Banks, which will undertake to build new offices or to make significant renovation of existing offices, and engage in approved residential developments within the next twelve (12) months,” he indicated. This, along with the duty-free concessions to first-time homeowners over the next 12 months, is expected to spur further construction activity in the country.
