Saint Lucia police are expecting a spike in attempts by Saint Lucians to enter this range through the ‘back door’ to be with friends and families for Christmas.
But Deputy Police Commissioner, Milton Desir, has warned against efforts to enter Saint Lucia unlawfully.
“It is a crime to enter Saint Lucia out first clearing after Customs and Immigration,” Desir noted.
He told that Saint Lucians in Martinique who are wishing to come the country to required to check with the Saint Lucia Consulate in the French overseas region and borders to make travel arrangements.
“Persons would be asked to come in with a negative COVID test,” Desir explained.
He said on return, medical officials here would decide whether the arrivals will be detained in a state facility or be allowed home quarantine.
“This is a bad situation that we see at very closely,” Desir told media.
“I am advising somebody that if they are in Martinique, they should come here through the legal means,” the Deputy Police Commissioner stated.
He observed that some personalities who enter this country illegally also leave by the identical means.
“Those persons are leaving solely for narcotics,” Desir asserted.
He noted that usually there’s an addition in criminal activities during the Christmas period.
“I am not only singling out the back door entry but also we assume that persons – especially those in Martinique who are wishing to come may try to escape quarantine,” Desir said.
The Deputy Police Commissioner uncovered that law enforcement here has a good agreement with their French counterparts. He said the French are helping Saint Lucia with marine patrols.
