Trinidad and Tobago: Seven bomb threats targeting eight locations were received across Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service said that these threats were made using different channels of communication on August 19. A security protocol was initiated and police were dispatched to carry out inspections at the threatened locations.

“The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) confirms that seven reports of bomb threats were received through different mediums today,” shared the police via an official press release on their Facebook page.

Six of the locations were Magistrates Courts in various areas, including Arima, Princes Town, Chaguanas, Siparia, Sangre Grande, and San Fernando. Other areas were Kent House, where the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government is located, and Valpark Shopping Plaza.

The reports triggered a large police presence, as the officers evaluated the places and conducted security checks. “The TTPS immediately activated the relevant security protocols, heightened its security posture and deployed officers to conduct the necessary checks,” further read their statement.

The police are appealing to members of the public to remain calm and to keep away from areas where security operations are taking place. “Members of the public are advised to remain calm, avoid any affected areas where police operations are taking place and comply with the directions of law-enforcement personnel,” said the authorities.

No explosive devices have been found by the TTPS as of now. The police force said that more information will soon be provided. The threat investigations are still underway.

Locals have taken to social media calling for more safety measures. One individual commented, “One bomb threat is a real threat 8 is someone playing a game with TTPS. Now this is a phone caller they should have been tapping.”

Another person said, “When is the expiry date for the SOE again? How convenient, by the way the TTPS do have a cyber crime unit?? Let us hear these recording now ! The public has very little confidence in the reports of the ttps. So we now demand hearing these calls.”
