Saint Lucia PM to participate at Afreximbank Annual Meetings, AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum at Bahamas

Saint Lucia: The Commonwealth of the Bahamas is all set to host the 31st Afreximbank Annual Meetings (AAM) and the third edition of the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF).

The events are scheduled from June 12-15, 2024. Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J. Pierre has reached Nassau, Bahamas to participate in the forum that aims to strengthen ties between the Africa and Caricom Nations.

The theme for this year’s forum is “Owning Our Destiny: Economic Prosperity on the Platform of Global Africa.” These events together will provide a platform to the leaders from both the public and private sectors with an aim to engage in high-level discussions on trade related and investment issues faced by the nations.

The AAM and ACTIF 2024 are a joint effort by the African Export-Import Bank, the Government of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, the African Union, the Caribbean Community, the Africa Business Council, and the CARICOM Private Sector Organisation.

The initiative is organized under the AfriCaribbean Business Council, with an aim to strengthen the ties at economic front and promote investment opportunities between Africa and the Caribbean.

The Government of Saint Lucia shared that the Prime Minister will be delivering the remarks on June 13,2024 at the presidential Plenary on the theme, “United We Stand, Divided We Fall: Building Alliances for Shared Prosperity.” The theme highlights the dire need for unity and collaboration to create a resilient and prosperous economy amidst challenges faced by the world.

It is to be noted that the island nation Saint Lucia is among the evolving countries to be part of African Export-Import Bank, and have secured a loan of USD 6 million as the fund for the repair and renovation of the schools.

Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire will act as Prime Minister in the absence of Prime Minister.

The event promises to serve a strategic platform for high-level discussions on economic development and regional integration.

Also, Malawi President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has cancelled his Bahamas trip after the plane carrying the Vice President Dr Saulos Chilma crash landed in a forest.
