To strengthen border security, PM Pierre and other local officials met Gerald Darmanin, who is serving as the Minister for the Interior and Overseas Territories of the Republic of France and his delegation.

During the meeting, the leader of Saint Lucia discussed the measures for enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Several other topics were also discussed such as education, health and security.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need for strong relations and cooperation between the Saint Lucia Police Force and French Security Forces, including the Navy, National Police and Gendarmerie.

PM Pierre elaborated that he is ready to accept any help only if it is fair and will not compromise the rights of the citizens. He expressed his gratitude to the French government for funding and training a dog as the local police rebuild their canine unit.

“We are going to get a dog from the French, and the pet already has a Kweyol name”, the prime minister remarked.

Recently, at a regular pre-cabinet press briefing on Monday, he expressed his commitment to tackle the problem with several efforts, made by the government.

As per reports, the pre-cabinet meeting featured several topics of concern, with a primary focus on criminal activities taking place in the island nation.

“Our aim is to have zero crime; that is our objective”, PM Pierre stated.

The Prime Minister, who is also responsible for National Security further declared that the citizens will be aware of the government’s investments in battling crime in the expenditure estimates. For this purpose, he appointed Micoud North MP Jeremiah Norbert as the Minister for Crime Prevention, in the beginning of the month.

He stated that his government would never compromise on the ideals of national unity despite any political and religious differences among the people, as there is diversity in cultures and religions.
