Saint Lucia: Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Philip J Pierre has been on a visit to the Republic of China (Taiwan). As per the government of Saint Lucia, this is the first-ever trip of PM Pierre to Taiwan.
On November 29, 2022, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia addressed the State Banquet held by President Tsai Ing-Wen of Taiwan.
PM Pierre emphasised that he is glad to celebrate the friendship between Taiwan and Saint Lucia is indeed an honour. Prime Minister further recalled the difficult time of Covid-19 and stated, “Just over two years ago, this would not have been possible. To travel, to meet in this space, and to bring greetings from my island to yours was impossible; the world had changed overnight because of the COVID-19 pandemic. So, I count it a blessing that we can have this day, to sit and break bread with each other this year.”
Furthermore, he stated that as “we fellowship with one another, may we remember the people who have given us the opportunity to live out our purpose in this world. The people who we are called to serve, the people who we must continue to put first. We represent not only our people but the shared aspirations of the nations which excelled in the differences in size and distance that may befall us.”
PM Philip J Pierre also mentioned that people from both of countries want to enjoy better housing, access to education, better healthcare, human rights, and freedom of choice and association. These are some of the ideals which countries share as they seek in small ways to make this “world a better place.”
He added that let everyone together continue to shape societies that are not intolerant of differences but also nurture societies that protect the vulnerable and marginalised amongst all.
“We look ahead to the continuation of our visit to share more pleasant memories, to learn and share experiences that will benefit the people of our two countries,” he concluded his message.
