Saint Lucia attends International Food Show “Food Taipei” for first time

Saint Lucia for the first time appeared at the Food Taipei 2024, an International Food Show which witnesses several food products and cultures from different parts of the world. Saint Lucia participated in the showcase with the nation’s most renowned products on June 26.

The Food Taipei is an international platform to showcase the food products specified to different countries and region keeping in mind the moto “Food for Future; Food Safety & Sustainability.”

This show takes place in Taiwan where countries bring forth the products like Canned Food, Sea Food, Baked Food, Biscuits, Liquor, Coffee & Tea, Condiments & Confectionery, and various others.

Saint Lucia’s most popular products include sun-dried Sea moss which is rich in carrageenan, essential vitamins and antioxidants. This is also uses as a natural food thickener and is believed to be a natural aphrodisiac.

The major products exported to Taiwan by Saint Lucia include beverages, alcohol and vinegar. For example, the Chairman’s Reserve Rum which is crafted at Saint Lucia’s sole distillery using various raw materials followed by aging it in various fragrant woods. The Baron Foods West Indian Hot Sauce is another example of such products. This sauce is prepared from fresh peppers blended with mustard that results in a unique spicy flavor.

Alfred Prospere, Saint Lucia’s Minister of Agriculture also visited Taiwan and later on stopped by the food show on June 26. He praised the event for the diverse exhibitors and the large-scale exhibitions at his sight.

While commenting on the food technology spotted at the event, he said that this was a good way for the Saint Lucians to move into a future which ensures the protection of food security and sovereignty of the nation. Alfred further added that this step while encourage the youth of the nation to take part in the agricultural domain of the country which will help to enhance and innovate the agricultural methods.

He thanked Taiwan for the firm support in helping Saint Lucia to take a leap forward for a better future in the agricultural sector.
