Dominica: In view of the preventive protocols of the COVID-19 pandemic, Minister of Public Works and the Digital Economy, Cassini Laville urged protestors to stay home as protests and clusters can be a conductor of the COVID-19 virus in the country.
Several Bus drivers of Dominica have withdrawn their services in the nation lately. Blocked roads are preventing the free flow of traffic and causing Mass disturbance. The traffic of Dominica never experienced this much disturbance and the public demand immediate action.
Lawlessness has been observed in several regions, which can not be tolerated. Moreover, harassment of police officials on the spot was also witnessed, reports revealed.
The bus drivers inhumanely treated the police officers and disturbed the public by sitting on roads in different areas, sources disclosed.
The protests of these bus drivers are for raising fare rates. Minister of Public Works and the Digital Economy Cassini Laville has issued a statement over this dispute.
Furthermore, He continued that “This is unfortunate that many bus drivers withdrew their services and protesting but blocking the roads is lawlessness, as it is observed in some areas that these bus drivers are blocking highways and taunting and harassing the police officials who came to help. “
“No one in any circumstances would tolerate this activity,” he added.
Minister allowed the police officers to do whatever they can do to maintain law and order.
The officers will not be charged for applying strict actions against protestors as they are doing to maintain the obligations and betterment and safety of the public, he continued.
Cassini Laville stated that this pandemic brought out challenges for not only one sector of the economy but each and every sector. This ongoing pandemic cursed not the local economy but the entire world that is affected by this disaster.
He declared that “rising bus prices would be harmful to the national recovery that will route the poised economy. In these critical times, we need to take special assistance to all those sectors.
The government remains committed to continuing its dialogue in many issues in all sectors, including bus owners and drivers.
He reminded that in the last 12 months, the government had spent a lot on all sectors. He urged the bus drivers to return to their homes and stop disturbing the public.
