READ HERE: Forecast for Hurricane Lee and Tropical Storm Margot

Grenada, Caribbean: The Meteorological Department of Grenada has informed the general public about the recent location of Hurricane Lee and Tropical Storm Margot.

As per the latest update, hurricane Lee was at the center of Hurricane Lee was located near latitude 21.4 North, longitude 60.5 West, Lee is moving toward the west-northwest near 9 mph, on September 10, 2023.

A slower west-northwestward motion is expected to occur the next few days. On the forecast track, Lee is expected to pass well north of the northern Leeward expected Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico into early next week.

The Meteorological Department has stated that the maximum sustained winds are near 105 mph with higher gusts. Expectedly, the hurricane will strengthen, followed by gradual weakening.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 160 miles. The estimated minimum central pressure based on measurements from the Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter is 958 mb.

The Department further shed light on the formation of Tropical Storm Margot. Accordingly, at 5:00 am, the center of Tropical Storm Margot was located near latitude 22.1 North, longitude 39.6 West. Margot is moving toward the northwest with the wind speed of near 8 mph. During the next couple of days, a gradual turn to the north-northwest and north is expected. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts.

The Meteorological Department further announced, “Strengthening is still anticipated, and Margot is likely to become a hurricane within the next couple of days.” Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is expected to be around 1000 mb.

Eastern Tropical Atlantic (Disturbance 1): Shower and thunderstorm activity associated with a small area of low pressure, located a few hundred miles to the southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands remains disorganized.

Environmental conditions appear to be only marginally favourable for development as the disturbance moves slowly westward over the eastern tropical Atlantic. The system is forecast to merge with a larger tropical wave to its east by midweek and no further development after that time is expected. This system has a low (30%) chance of development over the next 48 hours.

Tropical Wave (Disturbance 2): A tropical wave located near the west coast of Africa is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms, Environmental conditions appear conducive for-some gradual development of this system during the latter part of this week as it moves westward to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph over the central tropical Atlantic. This system has a low (0%) chance of development over the next 48 hours.
