Police recovers Marijuana and Xanax pills in Curepe nightclub, 22 Venezuelans held

The officials of the North Central Division Major Crimes Unit conducted a search at a Curepe nightclub, which resulted in the alleged arrest of 22 Venezuelan citizens.

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: The officials of the North Central Division Major Crimes Unit conducted a search at a Curepe nightclub, which resulted in the alleged arrest of 22 Venezuelan citizens in connection to marijuana.

The police were informed about the illegal selling of marijuana in the Curepe nightclub. The officers of the Major Crimes Unit, along with the Canine Unit and St Joseph CID, responded to the anonymous information and made their way to the nightclub.

The club was located along the Southern Main Road. Upon arrival at the location, the police officers executed a thorough search of the place and found a group of people in the club.

Noting this, the group involved eight women and fourteen men and all were recognized as Venezuelans between the ages of 22 and 38. They were questioned regarding the matter and during the session, the investigating officers managed to find a quantity of marijuana and Xanax pills.

The police have found that none of them had any legal permits or proof of the legitimate entry of the narcotics and pills into the country which raised the questions on import of such illegal items.

Noting this, the officers immediately detained all the twenty- two (22) suspects and they were taken to the police division for further investigation.

Notably, the operation was conducted under the leadership of ACP Subero, Senior Supt Smith and Supt Nowbutt. It was coordinated by ASP Ramharrack and Inspector Greene.

The anti-crime exercise was supervised by Sgt Thomas, Cpl Grant, Cpl Mohal, along with the officers of the North Central Division Major Crimes Unit, Canine Unit and St Joseph CID.

Additionally, the government of Trinidad and Tobago is focusing on increasing its surveillance to combat the problem of drug trafficking in the country. Such stances on criminal activities portrayed a bad picture of the country and challenged the law of the land. The authorities are working diligently in order to tackle the imports of narcotics by an illegal method.
