The Israeli military achieved a most recent development in their ongoing efforts as they discovered tunnels under the primary headquarters of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees in Gaza City. They found tunnels near mosques, schools and UN facilities.
According to the military, it is believed that these tunnels were allegedly used by Hamas Militants. The military found weapons and explosives in the facility, alleging that it was used by Hamas.
Further, the tunnels worked as repurposed as an electrical supply room. The discovery of the tunnels strengthened Israel’s allegations against the UN agency that they are collaborating with Hamas against Israel.
Moreover, they couldn’t find any of the Hamas militants in the tunnels under the UNWRA facility. However, they confirmed that there is a tunnel under the facility’s courtyard. In their opinion, they believed that the headquarters helped them with the electricity.
However, the headquarters of Gaza City, which is now destroyed, was found through an Israeli strategy of turning the earth over to reveal a tunnel entrance. Adding to the facts, the underground passage was almost half a kilometre long, with at least ten doors.
Interestingly, the sources added that they discovered a room in a UNWRA building connected to computers and electric wires. They then found a room with electrical cabinets and cables.
Noting this, the sources also said that they are planning to withdraw the dual investigations as well. The agency has issued a statement where they mentioned that Israel has also blocked their bank accounts, banned aid shipments and cancelled all the tax benefits.
Recently, the Israeli forces claimed the involvement of twelve staff members in the Hamas attack, which took place on October 7, which sparked the conflict for the agency and resulted in the suspension of funding by the major donor states.
They believed that it was used as a hub for providing power supply to the nearby tunnel. Hamas acknowledges the tunnels in Gaza, which were targeted by the Israeli military. The Israeli soldiers accused Hamas of using civilians as shields.
