PM Terrance Drew welcomes Canadian medical team to St Kitts and Nevis

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Dr Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, welcomed the distinguished medical team from Canada on July 31, 2023 (Monday). The team will pay a visit to the Joseph N France General Hospital.

The team has been led by a Biomedical Technologist – Charles Estridge, who is known to play an essential role in procuring fifteen (15) much-needed dialysis machines for the country in May 2023. The esteemed Canadian team consists of two registered nurses and a Biomedical Technologist named Yee Young Sand, Carmela Nelson and Jason Maher, respectively.

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, who also served as the Minister of Health of St Kitts and Nevis, addressed the team during a heartfelt welcoming ceremony. PM Drew expressed gratitude, on behalf of the people and government, towards Estridge and his team.

PM Terrance Drew was quoted saying that the government and Health Ministry are committed to implementing effective policies that extend crucial assistance to our people, prioritizing their well-being. Providing top-notch healthcare services is the foremost responsibility, and the authorities are determined to offer nothing less than the highest quality care.

“The generous contribution from Estridge is truly a gift that will significantly impact and save many lives. We cannot express our appreciation enough for this thoughtful gesture and the positive impact it will have on our community. With this support, we can move forward with renewed hope and confidence, knowing that together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need,” he said.

The team will provide special training to healthcare professionals, enhancing their capabilities and ensuring optimal care for patients in need of dialysis treatment. According to the update shared by the government of St Kitts and Nevis, the team has landed on the shores of the Federation to train the staff of the Haemodialysis Unit at the JNF General Hospital.

Prime Minister also lauded the acquisition of these dialysis machines and stated that this development is a significant milestone. He also mentioned that the installation of these machines in JNF Hospital shows the fulfilment of the promises made by him.

Along with this, Charles Estridge also expressed gratitude towards the government for inviting him back to his home country. While addressing this, he also explained why he chose to assist in the acquisition and donation of dialysis machines.

Additionally, Health Ministry extended heartfelt appreciation to the team for their continuous support towards the development of St Kitts and Nevis. It is also anticipated that such collaborations will be continued, and collectively medical capabilities of the nation will be advanced.
