PM Skerrit receives symbolic Diplomatic Feather from US Ambassador Nyhus, signifies trust and strength

The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit during his recent visit at SIDS4 Conference being hosted at Antigua and Barbuda received a masterpiece in the form of a Diplomatic Feather from Ambassador of US to Dominica Roger Nyhus. The symbolic feather has been presented as a token of the long-lasting and strong ties between the United States and Dominica.
The beautifully crafted feather highlights the close friendship and mutual respect both nations share.
Following the significant exchange of symbolic Diplomatic Feather PM Roosevelt Skerrit expressed gratitude for the kind gesture of friendship. PM Skerrit shared his vision of strengthening bond of friendship with the US through a Facebook post.
PM Skerrit’s Facebook post reads, “Thank you to Ambassador Roger Nyhus for this kind expression of friendship. Dominica values its partnership with the United States and looks forward to strengthening our bonds of friendship.”
Sharing the details about the symbolic gift Diplomatic Feather, the US Embassy Bridgetown highlighted that it has been crafted by Seattle-based Lummi Nation glass artist named Dan Friday in collaboration with Stonington Gallery.
The feather represents wisdom, trust, and strength which both US and Dominica demonstrate through continuous efforts of talks on major issues, cultural exchange and participating in highs and lows of each other.
Honouring the shared values and diplomatic ties, Ambassador Nyhus, proud member of the Chinook Indian Nation commissioned this feather. The hand-crafted piece includes the colours of Dominica’s flag with the cultural significance feathers hold in Native American tradition, symbolizing enduring partnership and friendship between the United States and Dominica.
This bilateral meeting that was organized on the sidelines of the 4th SIDS International Conference. PM Skerrit was honoured in the presence of various dignitaries from the US and Foreign Minister of Dominica Vince Henderson.
PM Skerrit and Ambassador Roger Nyhus have been participating in various productive meetings with Ministers of other Caribbean Island nations to strengthen the relationships and sharing the vision to fight against the major challenges faced by small island developing states.
