Sunrise Airways inaugural flight lands in Dominica; PM Skerrit highlights new opportunities and enhanced connectivity

Dominica on an exciting Monday welcomed an inaugural flight of Sunrise Airways at Douglas Charles Airport with water cannon salute. Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit highlighted that this cooperation will enhance connectivity throughout Caribbean and create new opportunities for economic growth, and mark as a new chapter for the tourism industry.

The CEO of Sunrise Airways, Phillipe Bayard along with other company’s officials on board were welcomed by acting Prime Minister Dr Irving McIntyre, Denise Charles, Minister for Tourism and other stakeholders. For the welcome of Sunrise Airways inaugural call at Dominica, a short ceremony was organised at the airport’s Executive Lounge.

Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit shared the exciting news through his Facebook handle, sharing, “Dominica today welcomed the inaugural flight of Sunrise Airways”. He also shared the aim behind increased connectivity noting, “enhancing regional connectivity and creating new opportunities for economic growth.”

PM Skerrit also shared that the airline will operate six days a week except for Tuesdays, with flights connecting the Commonwealth of Dominica to Antigua, St. Kitts and Saint Lucia.


Sunrise Airways shared that the new routes are part of a broader push in the intra-regional market. The following routes will be operated on Embraer 120 twin-prop service.

Tourism Minister Denise Charles-Pemberton at the welcoming ceremony revealed Dominica has been continuously trying to increase the access, it has been a major challenge ever since Covid and Liat’s absence in the intra-regional market. But now that the country has started with a new beginning, the government is grateful for this initiative by Sunrise Airways to enhance the connectivity among the islands and boost the tourism industry, she added.

During the ceremony, CEO Bayard shared the journey of Sunrise Airways since 2009 and his vision to enhance the comprehensive air network. He further added that this is the start of a new chapter for Sunrise Airways and Dominica. “We are thrilled to inaugurate scheduled service out of Dominica at a time when the country’s tourism and business prospects are on the rise, whether visitors are here watching hiking in the rainforest or business, Airways is excited to help discover and appreciate all that this island has to offer.”
