Roseau, Dominica: The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, received a courtesy call from the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Patricia Scotland QC, on Thursday, January 13, 2022.
The Secretary-General briefly informed PM Skerrit on the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, which is scheduled to take place in – Rwanda in June this year only.
Prime Minister, along with the Secretary-General, further also held discussions on several areas of interest to Dominica, including the global impact of the deadliest COVID-19 pandemic.
During her visit to the island, the Secretary-General will be meeting with various Dominican government ministers to discuss issues related to the environment and climate change, trade, education, gender, health, youth and sports.
PM Skerrit tweeted, “I received a courtesy call from Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland QC. We discussed the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, scheduled to be held in Rwanda in June 2022, & also discussed areas of interest to #Dominica, including the global impact of the COVID19 pandemic”.
Earlier this week only, the British High Commissioner to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean H.E Scott Furssedonn-Wood visited Dominica, during which he met with the islands’ President as well as Prime Minister while discussing several issues, including climate change.
The Dominican government has pledged to make the island as world’s first climate-resilient country in the world. To achieve this aim, numerous projects are at present going on in the Caribbean island, while dozens of them will be started soon. The government is focusing on building climate-resilient homes in different regions across the island.
Prior to her courtesy call to Dominica, the Commonwealth Secretary-General also met with the President of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali, on January 11, 2022, where she held discussions on several significant matters. She was presented there with her team of delegations which was being led by her only. Numerous other high-rank officials of the Guyanese government were also present at the meet.
