PM Skerrit outlines significance of youth parliament in interactive session on March 12

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit spent his Saturday morning with the youth parliamentarians ahead of March 23 and 24, 2022. The session was planned at the Cabrits Resort and Spa, Kempinski.

Many youth parliamentarians joined the interactive session to raise awareness about the opportunities to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the national policy.

“I shared some tips with the participants and encouraged them to use the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and understanding of national policy and development,” Prime Minister Skerrit noted.

He further optimized that the youth parliament can majorly contribute to fulfilling the objective of building an inclusive society.

Prime Minister Skerrit was quoted as, “I believe this Youth Parliament can play an important role in fulfilling the objectives of building a more inclusive society, creating greater opportunities for the nation’s youth and putting our young people, their views, ideas and aspirations at the centre of national life.”

This interactive session was virtually attended by the Prime Minister of Barbados – Mia Amor Mottley, who shared remarks on the impact of climate change on the small island countries.

PM Skerrit, “I was joined by the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley who engaged the participants in a virtual presentation on climate change impacts on small island economies, women in politics and the role of youth leaders in development, among other issues.”

Along with Barbados PM, the other facilitators who attended the session included former Barbadian Government Minister, Ambassador Liz Thompson, Speaker of the Dominica House of Assembly, Joseph Isaac and Minister for Trade, Commerce, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Business and Export Development, Ian Douglas.

He further applauded and wished success to the National Youth Council of Dominica. “I commend the National Youth Council of Dominica (NYCD) for organizing the Youth Parliament and wish them every success,” Prime Minister Skerrit further stated.
