Roseau, Dominica: The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, extended congratulations to Keir Starmer on becoming the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on Friday. His victory brought the Labour Party back to power after 14 years by claiming 412 seats out of 650 in the general election.
PM Skerrit took to his official Facebook account and stated that he is looking forward to working with the newly appointed Prime Minister Starmer and his new government with the motive of strengthening their bilateral ties. He extended best wishes to PM Starmer on behalf of government and entire people of Dominica.
“Congratulations to Keir Starmer and the Labour Party on a resounding victory in UK general elections held on Thursday,” noted Roosevelt Skerrit.
Following his election as a Prime Minister, Keir Starmer promised to carry forth the theme of his Labour Party campaign, ‘change’ into his government. He promised to continue to bring the notions of “service and respect” back into the administration.
He also noted that his main priority will always be putting his country first and then his party. He stated that he would make all his efforts to create wealth in every community and get the NHS back in order to enhance the security at the borders.
Also, the ex-Prime Minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak, who led the Conservatives, Britain’s oldest political party, faced massive defeat in its nearly 200-year-long history. Rishi Sunak apologises after their historic defeat, as his party lost 250 seats and won only 121.
Following that, he gave a resignation speech and stated that he had made all his efforts, but the people of the nation had made it clear that they wanted the government to change. Rishi Sunak further added that he has heard their anger and disappointment and takes all the responsibility for the loss.
Moreover, PM Skerrit aimed to enhance their diplomatic relations and work on several collaborative projects with the motive of leading the nation towards growth and development.
