PM Harris announces plans to diversify local economy across Federation
PM Harris, during the People’s Labour Party (PLP) Convention 2022, hosted on March 26, announced plans of the Government to diversify the local economy.

St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris, during the People’s Labour Party (PLP) Convention 2022, hosted on March 26, 2022, announced plans of the Government to diversify the local economy and create better-paying jobs across the Federation.
PM Harris was quoted as, “The Government of St Kitts and Nevis will continue to build out of the digital economy, incentivizing Wi-Fi support in every home at the most affordable rate. The authority has been doing this to assist our people to work from home with internet connectivity being the essential communication model worldwide; the Government is aware of the advantages of our Cable Company with its huge fibre-optic network. This properly utilized will provide benefits to us. Beyond that, the Government will also target high-tech industries for the Federation and build out a state-of-the-art data centre here in St Kitts and Nevis.”
PM Harris further announced the new development and investment frontier, referring to “The Blue Economy.” This will primarily focus on increasing the abundance of natural aquatic resources available.
PM Harris was quoted as, “The blue economy is a new frontier for the Federation. Traditionally, the nation is familiar with fisheries, maritime transport activities and tourism; these have significantly contributed to the wealth of the country. Although, the continued development of these areas of the blue economy is critical to economic growth as the Government operates in an environment of global uncertainty.
The Government has also been encouraging the residents to seek training and create businesses linked to the blue economy. Our blue economy will provide sustainable livelihoods for our people leading to the stronger and safer future that we all desire and deserve.”
