PM Dickon Mitchell visits Carriacou and plans fiscal measures to revive from Hurricane Beryl
The Prime Minister advised all the residents to unite together in this challenging times and work for the development of the nation

Grenada: The Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell visited Carriacou to engage with the business community and exchanged significant dialogues on the implementation of the fiscal measures to assist with the recovery efforts following Hurricane Beryl.
During their meeting, the Prime Minister also talked about the tourism industry in Carriacou and Petite Martinique and shared the measures that can be taken by them in order to recover from the devastating effects of the Beryl.
The Prime Minister shared and asked all the residents to unite together in this challenging times and work for the development of the nation. Along with that, the Prime Minister also listened to the needs, concerns and recommendations of the residents regarding relief, recovery and rebuilding and promised them to be there with them in tackling all the obstacles they are facing due to Beryl.
Notably, Hurricane Beryl has resulted in causing disastrous effects to Carriacou as it sustained the severe damage when the storm made landfall. Following that, the Beryl flooded streets, tore roofs off homes and knocked out power and communications for millions of people along its path.
The storm also devastated forests on Carriacou and Petite Martinique, roads were impassable and bore the brunt of the damage. As per the reports, 98% of the island’s buildings were destroyed and damaged. Along with that, the island nation also witnessed the death of the people due to Beryl.
While talking about the Beryl, the Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell stated that the loss of life, destruction of property and displacement of livelihoods on Carriacou is something that can’t be quantified in numbers. He added that it is going to be a long road for them to recover from the destruction of the Beryl.
The Prime Minister continued to say that they are working to rebuild in the most sustainable way possible as they are resilient people and are committed to bounce back from the destruction.
Moreover, the island nation has also received monetary contributions from several agencies and countries. Now, the Prime Minister stated that they will utilize all those donations in a best possible manner, ensuring the development of all the sectors of the nation.
The Prime Minister stated that they would be addressing the vulnerability of all sectors, such as agriculture and marine, all of which are directly related to tourism, which is a top priority for everyone. He stated that tourism, being the backbone of the country plays a huge role in bringing large number of tourists to the country and enhancing the economic conditions.
He shared that due to the Beryl, the tourism industry has faced several obstacles but now they will be coming up with innovative plans and policies so that they can revive from the destructions caused due to Beryl.
