The Sierra Leone authorities set $200,000 worth narcotic drugs and chemicals on fire in Freetown, which was used to manufacture the synthetic drug Kush, following an announcement of drug abuse as national emergency.
As per reports, the police have destroyed the narcotics in order to maintain the citizen’s security, so it will not affect the community. During the process, the officials from several law enforcement agencies were present at the Sierra Leone Police Training Academy.
Additionally, Kush is considered as a mixture of chemical substance, which has similar effects to cannabis. This practice has been prevalent in the West Africa since several years.
The attendees were gathered around the blowing fire and rising smoke. According to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, they have also burnt cannabis and cocaine, which were discovered at the same place.
The officers expressed their commitment to take the several measures to combat the drug problem in the country to save the youths.
“We are waging a war against Kush to save the youths of Sierra Leone from dying of drug addiction”, said the Executive Director of the agency, Andrew Jaia Kaikai.
As the country is in a state of drug confusion, the Director of the police’s crime services, Joseph Lahai added that their team is working efficiently and taking all the possible measures to eradicate the drugs to protect the forthcoming generation.
In addition, the President of Sierra Leone- Julius Maada Bio announced a “national emergency” in the country due to the increasing demands of his administration to take stringent actions against the rapid growth in the use of a synthetic drug, called ‘Kush.’
The President Bio termed the drugs as ‘Death Trap’, which can pose a serious threat to the life of an individual. He urged the general people to avoid getting into the drugs and encouraged others to not use drugs.
The reports further revealed that Sierra Leone noted an increase in the deaths due to Kush drugs. The National Task Force was assigned on the Drugs and Substance Abuse, who is working to address the Kush epidemic.
