Antigua and Barbuda: Terming US Embassy in Bridgetown accountable for unfavourable remarks of in Antigua and Barbuda Human Rights 2020 report.
Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne stated that Diplomats are not doing enough to cultivate relations between the Caribbean region and the United States.
Browne revealed to Pointe FM on Saturday that the US Embassy had a duty to guarantee that correct information is provided to the US Department of State regarding their multiple records.
PM Browne also criticised the embassy staff for not delivering enough to guarantee that vaccines are available to island Antigua and Barbuda and other Caribbean countries.
“What he wants to say to them, the Embassy in Barbados, he understands they don’t like to hear when he talks like this, but he says this without fear or favour, and he says this outwardly any hostility to the resident US Ambassador and her crew. She acknowledges he loves her as a person. Still, you understand what, in terms of managing the type of effective diplomatic relations among the Caribbean religion and the United States, he don’t believe they are doing a good job.”
“When they can conceivably operate with others in the State Department and put out information in the US Human Rights Report that not right, what they are doing is demolishing the reciprocal relationship within the United States and countries here in the Caribbean,” Browne declared.
“They must ensure that whatever message they document in these records, that the knowledge is accurate and correct.”
“And if is one country that will always speak out about these types of inaccurate reports is Antigua and Barbuda,” he stated.
“Furthermore, we anticipate them through this period of a pandemic for them to also advocate on the representation of the Caribbean region. They live here, they too are in danger, and they should be completely assisting us in pushing capital, in adding the Caribbean and in getting some vaccines ready, and he does not see that kind of effort,” Browne stated.
About the 2020 report, Browne stated it was not true that he recognized “various media outlets within the country.” He declared it was not true that “there is no free print media.”
