People encouraged to prevent overcrowding in markets during festive season

An increased hustle and bustle usually accompanies the festive season in Basseterre as people purchase gifts for loved ones as well as food supplies for the traditional Christmas dinner and new year.

Dr Cameron Wilkinson, Chief Medical Officer of the J. N. France General Hospital, St Kitts and Nevis, encouraged residents to do shopping earlier this year to avoid large crowds in the market doing last-minute shopping.

Dr Wilkinson also called on supermarket owners to make sure that all COVID-19 protocols are correctly observed.

These protocols include wearing face masks, sanitizing hands, and physically distancing.

He also said that people have a personal responsibility for protecting themselves.

He said that if someone goes to the supermarket and they realize that there is a crowd, they can leave and come back and shop at a later date.

He requested the people to start their Christmas shopping now.
