Paris Olympics 2024: Julien Alfred shines in heat round, qualifies for semi-finals of Women’s 100m

Castries, Saint Lucia: Saint Lucian sprinter, Julien Alfred qualifies for the semi-finals of Paris Olympic Games 2024. With her exceptional victory, she became another medal contender in the event, by clocking the time of 10.95 seconds to win her heat in Women’s 100m to advance to the semi-final round.

Julien Alfred cruises to an easy 10.95s to win her 100m heat beating Zoe Hobbs from New Zealand and Zaynab Dosso from Italy who finishes the race in 11.08s and 11.30s respectively.

Before the start of the event, Julien Alfred shed light on her consistency and stated that she had a long five weeks of hard training where she is working on little things and trying to polish her techniques. Along with that, she added that she is working on her endurance and the other things which can prepare her well for the Olympic Games.

Notably, Julien will participate in the semi-final round today and if she manages to win, then she will be competing for the finals that will take place on Sunday, 4th August 2024. Following that, Alfred will also participate in the Women’s 200m which has been scheduled to take place between 4th August- 6th August 2024.

And, while emphasising on the pressure of both of the races, she stated that “one race at a time is the best way to handle it.” She added that she wants to approach each race in the similar manner and just be mindful and be present in the moment so that she could perform well.

Moreover, Julien Alfred has also been the winner of the 2024 World Indoor Championship in March and now she is on a quest for bringing the first-ever Olympic medal for Saint Lucia. Following the exemplary victory by Julien Alfred, she received humongous amount of appreciation and love from her countrymen.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Dr Ernest Hilaire congratulated her on this victory and wished her best for the semi-finals. Also, he has extended an invitation to all the Saint Lucians to join them for an Olympic Watch Party in Ciceron at the constituency office from 12 noon, today August 3rd 2024 in order to cheer Julien until the end.

For the same, they have asked people to wear their national colours and pray for Julien Alfred who is competing to bring the first medal for her nation.
