Roseau, Dominica: Dominica to secure fundings for the construction of new smart cargo port at Donkey Beach Canefield. This update has been announced by the Finance Minister, Dr Irving McIntyre during Budget address 2024/2025.
The Minister stated that with the planned investment and the substantial growth in the economic sector, Dominica needs a cargo port which is capable of responding well to the tourism sector in order to attract large number of visitors to the country.
While shedding light on this facility, he stated that it would be built through resilient standards in order to be able to face the adverse weather conditions and other unforeseen conditions that may create a negative impact on the port operations.
The Minister of Finance stated that this project would play a huge role in serving as the smart technology with a vision to improve its efficiency and reduce clearance times. While emphasizing on the construction of the Cruise Village, he noted that there is a private developer which is undergoing some preparatory works for the development of a village at Woodbridge.
He added that this village will play a huge role in generating revenue for the local entrepreneurs so that they can access to a wider diverse international market with a vision to sell their locally produced goods and services. He added that the during the construction work, the citizens in the island nation can also explore several job opportunities and prospects with a vision to generate income.
Along with that the Minister also highlighted four crucial and transformative projects in the island nation which will play a huge role in creating sustainable jobs. The Project includes, International Airport, Cargo Port, Cabrits Marine and Cruise Village.
He further asserted that they have envisioned that the duty-free shopping zone will be another source in order to draw foreign exchange and investment in the island nation, fostering business and friendly environment for both large and small retailers.
