Morocco Earthquake: Saint Lucian PM Philip J Pierre extends condolence

Castries, Saint Lucia: Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre, expressed grief and condolence towards the people and government of Morocco on thousands of deaths following the tragic earthquake that hit the nation.
Through his official social media account, he assured that the Saint Lucian government and people stand firmly with Morocco during this pain and sorrow. He also extended a helping hand and stated that his country would send every possible aid to assist them.
“In the face of this unspeakable tragedy caused by an earthquake, I want to express my sincerest condolences to the Government and the People of Morocco on the death of so many loved ones,” he noted on his official social media page.
PM Pierre added that he prayed for the healing of the injured, strength and courage for the emergency personnel and comfort for all who mourn.
“Do know that you have a friend in Saint Lucia, especially during this difficult time. May the souls of the departed rest in peace,” he added while concluding his message to Morocco.
World Support to Morocco:
The world has assured its support and help to Morocco. Various leaders from prominent countries have joined hands to help the nation. According to the International Federation for Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), it has released an amount of $1 million from its emergency disaster fund for the Moroccan Red Crescent’s work on the ground.

According to the reports, more than 2,000 people have died, and 2,421 were injured, as per the statistics shared by the Morocco government. The US Geological Survey has stated that the quake hit North African country at 11:11 pm with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8. These tremors have broken all the latest shaking records. The magnitude measured by Morocco’s National Seismic Monitoring on the Richter scale was 7.
Following the quake, various Moroccan videos went viral on social media, showing buildings reduced to rubble and dust. One of the videos showed walls of famous red walls that surround the old city in historic Marrakech, a UNESCO World Heritage site, falling apart.
