Lilian Chatterjee commends PM Gonsalves’s leadership in two crisis

St Vincent and Grenadines: Canada’s High Commissioner Designate to St Vincent & the Grenadines, Lilian Chatterjee, has commended the leadership of the islands Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves as the explosion of La Soufriere continues.
“You experienced economic disaster because of COVID and now La Soufriere, and am so fascinated especially with your leadership PM; you are demonstrating wonderful leadership in discussing the concerns of your people”, Lilian Chatterjee stated.
The High Commissioner-designate stated Vincentians are resilient people, remaining strong in the appearance of two crises, COVID-19 and La Soufriere explosion.
Addressing on state radio on Tuesday 27th April, Lilian Chatterjee stated she had regarded the events in St Vincent, and her government would respond soon.
In the urgent, Canada has distributed CAD$440,000 in humanitarian assistance, which will go towards the basic requirements of those displaced.
The emergency relief funding will concentrate on the basic requirements of displaced persons, including those in shelters, with a donation of $50,000 to promote the work of Rapid Relief Team SVG and the health needs of displaced women and children within a contribution of $50,000 to the World-Pediatric Project Caribbean.
Canada has contributed $90,000 to St. Vincent & the Grenadines Red Cross via the International Federation of Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support shelters for evacuees and to grant relief supplies and first aid assistance.
She stated Canada has established the Southern Caribbean island for a long time & highlighted the Richmond Vale Academy.
“I did a virtual tour of their plan; they were producing home gardens in the North-Western societies showing villagers how to be self-sustainable, and when I observe the videos, am so broken-hearted by the destruction”, Chatterjee stated.
Canada has also assembled a $250,000 contribution to the World Food Program- (WFP) following the UN Flash-Appeal for aid to St Vincent & the Grenadines.
