Kirani James finishes fifth in 400m, fails to win medal in Paris Olympics 2024

Grenada’s star athlete, Kirani James failed to claim a medal for his country in the Paris Olympics 2024 and finished in the fifth position in the Men’s 400m by clocking a time of 43.87sec.

Notably, James put an excellent showcase of performance in the semi-finals and won the heat with a remarkable performance, finishing the race in a time frame of 43.78 seconds and reached the finals. However, the athlete did not able to win a medal for his country in the finals and secured fifth spot.

Following his defeat in the finals, the Government and all the citizens of Grenada backed him and called him “an inspiration” who faced several challenges in his life but still remained a dominant force among the athletes.

The Government of Grenada extends heartfelt gratitude to Kirani James for his outstanding representation on an international platform. The Prime Minister, Dickon Mitchell stated that he is extremely proud of all the achievements of Kirani and stated that it is his discipline, commitment, perseverance and great sportsmanship which have propelled him to succeed over the years.

The Prime Minister continued to say that his accomplishments over the years, both at home and on the world, are a testament to his power of talent, hard work, and determination that embodies the spirit of a true champion.

Notably, James claimed his first ever global medal at the age of 14 and the Olympic title at 19. He claimed the first ever gold medal in the 400 meters at the World Championship in South Korea. Following that, at the age of 19, he claimed the gold medal in the 400m and became Grenada’s first Olympic champion and a national hero.

In 2016 Rio Olympics, James claimed silver medal and continued to bring laurels to his nation. The leader of the nation stated that despite being diagnosed with the thyroid condition Graves in 2017, Kirani James manages to reach an Olympic final at Paris Olympics 2024. He stated that James has overcome all his health and personal challenges and came out as a warrior who has never given up.

The Prime Minister stated his success and never giving up attitude is a huge inspiration for all those athletes who are striving hard to represent their nation on an international platform. The Prime Minister wished him continued success in the future and expressed gratitude to him for bringing joy and pride to his community and Grenada.

Following his defeat in the finals, Kirani James expressed his disappointment in not being able to win the medal for the nation and promised to work even harder so that he can make his nation proud in the next games.
