Jamaica: Jamaica’s sprint queen and the gold medallist, Elaine Thompson Herah has withdrawn from the Paris Olympics Field and Track Trials due to an injury, she sustained during the New York Grand Prix.
The news of her injury was shared by the athlete herself, as she took to her social media account and expressed dissatisfaction with not being able to participate in the Olympics. The athlete has been the gold medallist in both 100m and 200m respectively at the Olympic games but due to her injury she won’t be able to defend the title and medals.
She further noted that she is truly hurt and devastated but is trying to start over the process and keep working in order to make full recovery and resume her track career. She asserted that she will prioritize her health first and will make one of the greatest comebacks on the field as soon as possible.
While sharing the details of an injury, Elaine Thompson Herah stated that she was at the New York Grand Prix when she felt something in the race and insisted on pushing but realized that something was going wrong with her. She further added that she later sat on the ground because she failed to apply any pressure to her leg as she was getting carried off the track.
Following that, Thompson went to the doctors to get a medical check-up and to find out the reason behind her pain, to which she later found that she has a small tear on her Achilles tendon. She shared out her heart and stated that she wanted to prepare for her national trails and gave another shot but her injured leg doesn’t allow her to do that.
Thompson also expressed her belief in God and stated that it is not the birthday gift that she wanted, but she added that she will continue to work towards her goals in order to achieve them. She remarked that she would be watching the Olympics from the stands and would be cheering her teammates.
Moreover, the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness extended speedy recovery to Elaine Thompson Herah and stated that it is very crushing to learn that the second fastest woman in history and currently the fastest alive, Elaine Thompson-Herah, has withdrawn from the National Championships and will therefore not compete at this summer’s Paris Olympic Games.
“The entire Jamaica sends best wishes to Elaine for a full and speedy recovery. Elaine Thompson Herah,” noted PM Holness.
