Jamaica to receive between 146,400 and 249,600 doses of Astra Zeneca

Jamaica: Jamaica is to receive between 146,400 and 249,600 doses of Astra Zeneca, COVID19 vaccine by the middle of February under the COVAX facility.” – Ministry of Health & Wellness, Jamaica.

The COVAX facility has advised the government that the country is set to receive between 146,400 and up to 249600 doses of Astra Zeneca vaccines by mid to late February 2021. This means that some 125,000 Jamaicans could receive vaccines by the end of February 2021.

This means that some 125,000 Jamaicans could receive vaccines by the end of February into March. Among those receiving the vaccines are our frontline workers, including our nurses and doctors, and then to our vulnerable persons, chief among those are persons 60 years and older.

Madam Speaker, this vaccine’s availability is subject to the World Health Organisation (WHO) Emergency use listing. The indicative amount is based on the manufacturers’ current communication, Serum Institute of Indian and SK Bioscience.

If additional supplies under the COVAX arrangement are received, we will vaccinate some 450,000 Jamaicans by the end of the year. I must hasten to the caution that it is likely that the allocation may need to be adjusted, as the present circumstances are challenging to anticipate.

Jamaica resident commented, “The WHO failed in its mission to keep countries informed of the truth promptly. And we still don’t know the when, where, and why about the virus’s provenance. Nevertheless, I’ll say happy jab for you and yours – and happy landing after Mr. PM.”

A Facebook user commented, “Mr. Holness is it possible for me to get this Asta Xenical covid vaccine in Jamaica? Canada does not receive this Asta Xenical covid vaccine yet, and I am not interested in talking about their mRNA vaccine. You are doing an excellent job for Jamaica. I hope I can visit Jamaica soon.

Another user commented, “I know of people who took the first dose of the vaccine who are now positive with COVID-19, and they didn’t have it before they were vaccinated. What sense does this or these vaccines make? It’s very confusing.”
