Jamaica Public Service Company to restore power in St Elizabeth by August 31

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) has announced the complete restoration of power to all the customers of St Elizabeth, the area that was the most affected due to Hurricane Beryl. The restoration deadline shared is August 31,2024.

The Jamaica Public Service Company shared that St Elizabeth is by far the most affected area after the passage of Hurricane Beryl on July 3. So, the restoration process has been bit delayed and have been taking more time in comparison to the other affected areas.

Further the company in their release on Sunday has advised the customers to make sure that their premises are fit and ready to receive the electricity. Which means, they should have their pothead and meter stand or stanchion in proper condition to receive the connection from the power utility.

Additionally, the company has been conducting the verification exercise to ensure that at the areas where the power restoration has been done, all the customers have received the power in their connections, id not they can immediately contact the Jamaica Public Service and inform them.

Currently, their target area is St Elizabeth, so they want to confirm that all the areas in St Elizabeth where power has been restored are indeed receiving electricity.

This approach, followed by JPS, is meant to double-check and make sure that no one is missed in the power restoration process. It’s an extra step to verify that every customer who should have their electricity back is actually getting it.

After the passage of the Hurricane Beryl the company has been actively working to repair and rebuild the electricity infrastructure in St Elizabeth, by focusing on restoring damaged sections of the power network.
Moreover, JPS has increased the manpower by assigning additional staff from other areas to speed up the repair process, specifically in St Elizabeth.

Once JPS has fully restored electricity to all customers in St Elizabeth, they will continue their work by reevaluating and improving the design of the electrical distribution network to enhance its efficiency and reliability.

The Jamaica Public Service Company shared that they will implement modern technologies and systems to upgrade the existing infrastructure and will reconstruct parts of the distribution network that were damaged or are outdated.
